This permit does not relieve the permittee from responsibility for fire damage.
To Validate/Activate the permit, please follow these instructions.
1. Read the permit carefully. Note the size limits and terms and conditions.
2. Fill in the street address or legal description.
3. Call the Burn Permit Recording at 907-761-6312 each day you plan to burn to
check for burn suspensions.
4. Call Matcom Dispatch at 907-352-5401x6 to inform them of the burn.
WHO NEEDS A RECREATIONAL BURNING PERMIT? You do, if you fit the following criteria:
1. The land where you plan to burn is within the city limits of Palmer.
2. You plan to perform open burning for the purpose of cooking or warming.
Campfires and recreational fires are included in this requirement.
3. The area in which you plan to burn is not covered by other burning restrictions.
REGULATIONS:
Recreational Fires. Recreational fires shall not be conducted within 15 feet of any structure or combustible material. Do not burn under utility lines. Conditions which could cause a fire to spread within 15 feet of a structure shall be eliminated prior to ignition. Palmer Fire & Rescue requires the use of some type of metal screen device to catch flying embers (EXAMPLE: manufactured fire pits).
Propane pits must be a minimum of 10 feet from a structure.
Attendance. Open burning and recreational fires shall be constantly attended until the fire is extinguished. A minimum of one portable 5-lb. fire extinguisher complying with a minimum 4-A rating or other approved on-site fire-extinguishing equipment; such as dirt, sand, water barrel, garden hose or water truck, shall be available for immediate utilization.
PROCEDURE:
*RECREATIONAL BURNING PERMITS and CLASS A/B/C BURNING PERMITS are issued
inside Palmer city limits.
*Please fill out and submit the webform. A photo of the burn pit area would be helpful.
*To activate the permit, an on-site inspection by a Palmer Fire & Rescue representative
is required. On-site inspections are generally scheduled for THURSDAYS after we
receive your application. If you are not available on Thursdays, please make sure the
area is accessible for the inspector. If not easily accessible, please call 907-745-3709 x1
to make arrangements. (Emergency calls take priority over inspections.)
