Dear Senator Murkowski,

I am writing to request your support in funding the rebuilding of the Palmer Public Library, which suffered a catastrophic roof collapse on February 15, 2023. Unfortunately, the damage to the library is extensive, and sections of the library have been rendered unusable. As a result, the library has had to close its doors to the public, depriving our community of access to its resources and services.

As the second largest library in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough, the Palmer Public Library is a valuable community resource that provides essential educational and cultural services to residents of all ages. It serves as a hub for learning, research, and community engagement, hosting events, programs, and services such as online PFD application assistance, creating and using an email addresses, applying for government assistance, searching and applying for a job, formatting a resume, and help learning to use a personal mobile device.

The City of Palmer is seeking funding to rebuild the library so they can continue to serve the community for years to come. It is estimated that the total cost of the repair and replacement project will be $9,750,000. This is a significant sum, but I am hopeful that you will be able to support the City of Palmer in this effort. Any funding that you can provide would be greatly appreciated and would go a long way to restoring this important community asset.
