Library Donations

PALMER PUBLIC LIBRARY
Donation Policy

Purpose of the Policy: Establish criteria for donations.

Palmer Public Library welcomes gifts of needed material or funds for the purchase of needed material. Donors are encouraged to provide funds for material, so the items may be selected, purchased, and processed in accordance with standard public library guidelines for acquisitions. The donor is invited to indicate subjects of special interest to the person or agency being remembered. Conditional donations which do not meet the general practices of a public library will be referred to a more appropriate recipient whenever possible. Palmer Public Library welcomes gifts of books, other materials and monetary donations that enhance our collections, services, or facilities as described in the guidelines below. The library reserves the right to refuse any gift or donation that the library does not deem is in the best interest of the library to accept. All gifts or donations to the library shall be final and no restrictions on the library’s ownership, possession, use, or disposition of the gift shall be in. The library reserves the right to replace or remove any donated items that cease to be useful to borrowers. The items will be discarded in the same manner as other library material.

Donations of funds should be made payable to the Friends of the Palmer Public Library, Inc a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. All gifts of books and other items are accepted with the understanding that they may be used or disposed of as determined by the Library Director. Monetary gifts of ($1,000 or more) will be recognized on the Donor Recognition Wall. A memorial plaque will be purchased containing the wording requested by the donor.

Bring donations to the Circulation Desk of the library during regular library hours. Due to storage space constraints and staff availability, drop-in donations are limited to no more than 2 small or medium sized boxes. Please DO NOT DUMP items outside the library or in the book drops. Receipts are available. Library staff or a Friends representative will note the number of boxes or bags received. Donations are tax deductible to the extent provided by law. Library staff cannot place a value on donated items but upon request will provide a donation slip at time of intake of items. IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE DONOR TO DETERMINE THE TAX IMPLICATIONS OF A DONATION.
